As creatures made in the image and likeness of God

As creatures made in the image and likeness of God, our bodies are special gifts that need to be treated AND used well. Fasting, the third pillar of Lent, helps us pay more attention to what we put in our bodies and how we use them.

More than just postponing eating meat or an extra meal for the next day, we can give our share to our brothers and sisters in need. More than just avoiding an activity we may be too attached to, we can be intentional about how we’ll spend that extra time, like helping others with our talents or spending time with loved ones we may be neglecting. Let us use our God given bodies for good and treat them right.

How often are we blind to God’s love by our worries and ambitions? It’s no surprise that in the busyness of life, we can sometimes miss what is in front of our own eyes.

Today’s Gospel reminds us that Jesus helps us see what we need to when we need to. If we’re wondering how we can grow into better disciples, when we should ask for forgiveness, and what path to take, let’s ask God to open our eyes as He did the man born blind. Let’s ask Him to cure our blindness of what we don’t understand by teaching us what is pleasing to Him and giving us light as St. Paul says in today’s second reading.
